my “oh boy” was more about how expectations have dropped…and i somewhat agree.
I'm not sure Hubert has a plan. I mean, he plays his starters very heavy minutes, and doesn't seem to have a predictable substitution pattern. He's taken a pure shooter (Walton), played him out of position and asked too much of him and now both his shot and his confidence are gone. He's got several guys who are big parts of our future who never play, etc.........and the post-game comments are so strange.
I'm no coach, but with this roster, which is deep but unproven, I would have pressed like hell the first few games (and would press more now). That would have accomplished 2 things; you would find out who's tough and willing to play hard on D, and it would give guys PRECIOUS time on the court. You establish your identity with defense, especially in today's game. Instead, we have no identity, only a few guys play, and our defense is horrific.

Well, yeah you did say that. You told him he just should have not shared it when you told him to stop before he shared it. Maybe next time you could actually critique his opinion.

Game was worse than the score indicated. And it indicated a pretty shitty game. First time in unc history they won a game shooting worse than 30%. This team continues to push the envelope for “wtf”
I missed it. Checked the box score and figured there was no need to watch the replay.
Then critique it, by all means, critique it. How would YOU have handled the team on day one?

ETA. It was easily the worst UNC game I can remember watching, although maybe that's because I'm blocking some of the Doherty games from my memory.

He's so butthurt that he's not as good as he thinks he should be. He plays like a 5'7'' 14 year old boy trapped in a 6'11'' body.

Garcia never seemed to be a member of the team, anyway. Regardless, Davis needs every man he can get. I'm still pissed that no one made sure that Harris's grades were lacking. Credit to Ant for at least being on the bench and showing support.
It's pretty bad optics in your first season to lose necessary memberS, plural, to your rotation, for reasons not related to injury.
I actually don't know if he's coming back or not. I do know the family illness is legit but there are rumors it's just an excuse for him to get out of here.
My feelings about him being soft and entitled still hold true even if he comes back.

Lol. I found a thread on IC about it but not a lot of news in there. Just some poasters heckling Garcia for being soft and some crying about how our fans are big meanies. You know, Raideresque.
But an old poaster here told me that his family is "faking" an illness so they can get an exception and get him a transfer without him having to sit a year.
I honestly don't know what's going on, but the various theories are always interesting. First, he was playing decent minutes now and has even started at times. Next year, he'll definitely be playing a ton and starting. How does it make sense to transfer for next year to a "local" school to achieve the same thing? Either this is a bunch of internet gibberish, or, there is much more to this yet to come out.
Man, the NCAA is dumb but I don't think they are dumb enough to not vet out a real illness vs. a fake one in what would be a very high profile transfer. But then again, their ineptitude never ceases to amaze me so maybe they can swing it through.
I do think there's a more likely scenario that the illness is real and he's gonna use that as his excuse to the NCAA.
I think it's more likely than not that he's gone. These rumors don't usually start out of nowhere.
Idk how soft he is or what's going on but this won't be the first to not return after the season this team has issues internally.
If that kid is going to that kind of length to bail on the team, then it's entirely possible that he was the problem. In which case; Carry your sorry ass back to that godforsaken tundra climate.
AJ just made a post on Four Corners that is not what I'd call positive or all clear, so there's probably gonna be some fire behind all this smoke.
That would fit with how this season has gone so far.
Our team is dysfunctional and underachieving. Garcia has been a huge disappointment even to himself. Kids are soft as Charmin these days. He's running from adversity. That's how I see it.
