Calling it now. Kay’s final ncaa game will be vs UNC

I'll never find out, because I would have a heart attack before the game started.
I'm not sure if the stakes would be higher than the pageantry of the Cameron exit. But, even if it happens, UNC would still be under less pressure. Although, I think this dookie team has become much better with the adversity and pressure since that loss.

I agree. As much as I would love for that to happen, I don't think it's going to happen. I don't think UNC is going to win tonight, unfortunately. Obviously, I could be wrong, but it's a gut feeling I have.
is it the same gut feeling you had for the last two games? I hope so.

It wouldn't be a final game, it would only be a Final Four game. It isn't the same. It's almost a tragedy that they aren't situated where it could be a final game.

If the Heels lost to Duke in the Final Four they should shut down this site for a few months. The meltdown would cause a power outage in Orange County.

and I knew that because I had already mapped it out, but the brain fog set in. Thanks.

I'm working that in, somehow.

I'm already happy with the season and the trajectory of the team and program. The win over Baylor was beyond my wildest dreams. And, to have won that game twice was confirmation.

HD got this team further than RW would have gotten them. I think it's pretty clear, now, that HD is the guy. He's been immersed in UNC basketball, and ALL basketball, from childhood. I think he knows how to reach the kids and get them to perform together. His standard is higher than we can imagine.

Nahhhh. I would be upset, but I have plenty of sugar for the salt. The win in durham, with that place selling seats for a billion dollars, and the whole coronation and former players... all getting embarrassed, AT HOME, on national TV, and having to go forward with that ceremony, after losing as 15 point favorites? It may be hard to believe, but... THAT is far more tasty than any NCAA tournament game.

This tourney is losing its shine for me. These shitty refs and rewarding shitty play, and "analysts" pretending not to notice is ruining this whole show. The NCAA sucks. The rivalry is always a bigger prize. K even knows that and he knows he can NEVER one-up that loss.

on the other hand, if dook lost to us, Orange County would have free energy for a month. They might have to route a detour of some sort around Franklin and Columbia

A trip to the FF would be much higher. Winning K's last home game gave us great bragging rights. It's still just a win in the rivalry, though. You don't hang banners for that or get credit for more than one win. The FF is the FF.

the key is not just to get to the kids, but to get to them such that THEY are the ones sustaining the spirit and getting them to buy in and helping to teach the newbies. I can see that happening. They also need a leader, one who won't take quit for an answer; and RJ fits the bill there it seems to me. I'm not quite ready to give him the hosanna, but I can see it coming and nothing will make me happier....for him as much as myself.

ETA by 'him' I mean Hubert

Not to me. The rivalry is just as important, if not more so, to me. I mean, I can appreciate the NCAA Tourney... which I am. But, I think the legacy of the rivalry is equally important and it's impossible to one-up UNC after what happened in durham.

It is hard to top stealing his goodbye to Cameron. There's a virtual banner in the heart of every fan that will last just as long as the memories we have of Dean, Doh, Roy and maybe Gut.

me too, in both regards. Giving K the digit on his day is as good as it gets for me.

Used to be, way back when, after I watched a Carolina game I would be almost as interested in watching another ACC match...because the game itself was worth seeing and the conference itself was admirable. Now, my interest all but disappears if the Heels aren't playing, and for the reasons you give..

Why would you think it's clear? I've said it multiple times, but Hubert shouldn't be judged based off of his first year, win or lose. I bet UConn fans were really excited after Kevin Ollie's first couple of years and we see how that turned out. Doherty had a pretty good first year as well. I could name coaches that started out bad and turned things around as well. Let's see how Hubert is doing after year three with all of his players. Then we can make a fair judgement about how clear it is.

You sound like a moo fan who talks about the regular season matchup being more important or just as important as the postseason. That's not really a good mindset to have. Regular season bragging rights mean nothing verses postseason bragging rights. That's not really debatable.

just kidding, I said somewhat as much myself. I just want to enjoy what we are doing for now and imagine that we are back to being Carolina..

It's definitely debatable. This is proof! I grew up around moo fans. There's not much difference in us as human beings or fans. The history of the ACC special gives a lot of insight on how it used to be a much more isolated experience. The ACC was a much bigger show than the NCAA.

A win in a final four trip easily tops it. No rational person would think beating duke at home for K's last home game is better than beating K for a trip to the championship (which would mean knocking him out for his last game ever).

It's a debate. In the potential tourney gm will there be crazies in big-bird costumes in the stands crying and will I get to see 90+ ex-dukies sharting themselves?

I'll give you a solid C- for that post. You tried and that's the important part.
You put far more importance on the NCAAT than I do. It's just a difference of opinion and preference.

Winning in Cameron has made dookie fans more salty than anything I've ever witnessed in my life. A banner hanging in a building somewhere is a banner hanging in a building somewhere. That experience of beating them in the most-watched bball game in... who knows how long... is much more direct and visceral for me. And, it stings the dookies even more, too.

Yeah, no way, man. Getting beat by duke in the Final Four on the way to them hanging a banner would give them the trump card right back and make our win in Cameron essentially irrelevant.

On the flip side, if we were victorious, it would compound the Cameron win and they'd pretty much never be able to tell us anything ever again, no matter how many banners they hang.

Meeting in the tournament, let alone the Final Four, would instantly be more important than almost any other matchup to date.

Regardless, it's really premature to get worked up about it. Hoping Arkansas makes it moot.

yep…that game seems to have had a positive influence on their late game tightness.

banners are great but they don't necessarily represent all that is meaningful to us. The best thing in competitive sports are the intense rivalries that develop. There is no banner for those, but you can believe that's where the greatest passion resides. I posted a video of the crowd pouring onto Franklin Street after this last win over dook, and I believe if you see it you'll agree that it pretty much matches any Championship celebration.

There are no other schools in college basketball like Duke & Carolina... none! There probably never will be. That legacy of that rivalry is much greater than these NCAA Money-Grabs every March. If you don't have one, or both, in those tournaments, then the ratings are always going to be lower!

I said it back when the Coach K Curtain Call game was over... that game will be just as well-remembered, if not more so, than any NCAA tourney final! It's pretty universally agreed that HD has something that NO OTHER COACH can ever have! Now, how that ranks among certain fans is subjective. But, I know that dookie fans everywhere will always be pissed about that game, and the theatrics of the whole night. UNC spoiled it forever.

Two months ago if my choice was beating Duke in K's last home game or going to the Final Four I would have taken winning in Cameron. If my choice was beating Duke in K's last home game or beating him in the Final Four I would have taken the win in the Final Four.
