The sweet 16 is here! It’s time to cast your vote to see who becomes elite and who gets second billing in the John Lennon and Chester Bennington regions. I’ll give a brief summary of the matchups and my picks in a spoiler warning. You have until midnight on Saturday to place your vote. Here we go.
John Lennon Region
1 Beatles vs 4 Pink Floyd
It’s the battle of the English bands. But their homeland is not all they share. While Pink Floyd was recording songs on their first album, the Beatles were recording songs for their “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” album in the same studio. No matter who wins here the English have at least one band in the Elite 8.
3 Eagles vs 2 Tom Petty
Two of the genres best-selling and most well-known acts appear in this east coast vs west coast match-up. The Eagles coming out of Cali with some laid back California rock and Tom Petty out of Florida with his guitar driven sound.
Chester Bennington Region
1 David Bowie vs 4 Red Hot Chili Peppers
One of the best on stage performers meets the guys who are known for wearing their socks on stage. David Bowie showed future artists how to put on a show to go with great music and the Chili Peppers gave us some funk rock grooves.
6 Genesis vs 15 Radiohead
Another matchup that has a little known connection to each other. Genesis is well known for using proto-synthesizers, specifically the Mellotron. Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood was inspired to use it in their music after listening to Genesis albums.

Tough choice. Both have put out some great music. Ultimately though, the Beatles have had more of an influence in music, so I’m going with them.

Another tough one. Both of these bands could fill up my playlist, but I just can’t help but get a peaceful easy feeling by choosing the Eagles.

I think Bowie is great, but I think the Peppers are better.

Genesis is just too much to handle and I’m voting for them here even if they can’t dance.
