OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

@gunslingerdick

Good Lord, for the last time: I'm not "measuring UNC against Duke." Nor am I "glossing over the areas where we are better than Duke." Do you want me to make a list in every single poast where I list out the areas we are owning Duke? Would that assuage your annoyance? Gotdang dude.

I just want us to beat them more head-to-head. That's it. That's all. The end. Motherfukk. It ain't that complicated. I also want us to beat Virginia under Bennett more than we do. I always want us to win more. Is that so bad?

He ain't referring to me. I don't even pay attention to when Duke plays unless it's against us or if it's in the ACCT or NCAAT.

In fact, I don't think he's referring to anyone. Seems like a strawman he's created.

I thought he held Berry out too long as well. I don't think there was much of a lesson to be learned because several of the fouls were just garbage calls. To me it seemed irrelevant if he came back in and fouled out because we were going to lose if he was out too long anyway.

I want a million dollars.

I want to have sex with a different dime piece every night of the week.

I want my kids to get a scholarship to Harvard.

I want to be perfectly healthy until the day I die at the age of 99.

If I get one of those, I'll be content.

Because wanting a top program like UNC to beat their primary rivals in basketball is definitely on the same level as wanting a million dollars.

Wanting them to beat our rivals consistently and win championships, and run the program with class, and have guys come through that are fun to root for, and win 25 games per year and , and, and...yeah, it's similar.

lol We all know you're just arguing this for the sake of being an ass. This is a rivalry, and a pretty intense one at that. We don't like losing to our rivals. Get it? You do, but you have to be an ass, so I understand where you're coming from.

Exactly.

First off, thanks for putting the tl;dr at the top. For some reason most people put it at the bottom of their post which makes zero sense. Now, a question for you.

it should happen organically like it did with Marvin and Tony - guys that came under the assumption they would be in the program for a while but things shook out in a way that they could be OAD.
There is no organically for Little. He is coming in with the assumption that he will be OAD. In part of your other post you mentioned that this wasn't a great idea and would potentially cause chemistry issues. If that mentality is a problem why should Roy make an exception for him? And yes I know you think he won't be a OAD, but so far your thought process hasn't changed his mentality

It wasn't organically for Marvin Williams, BTW. He was the #11 player in the country, at a time when HS seniors could go pro right out of HS, which most did:

Recognize those names? Only 4 of the players in front of Marvin went to college (Gay, Hairston, Crawford, Morris). The rest went pro, including Earl "J.R." Smith who was committed to Carolina.

Marvin had no intention on being OAD. I believe he’s said that in interviews.

I don’t think I understand what you’re asking me.

Blending the two is not an easy task and attempting to do so will undoubtedly cause chemistry problems at times. I'm not saying that OADs should never happen. But when they do, it should happen organically like it did with Marvin and Tony
So, it would appear that either Roy disagrees with you or he's made an exception. Just curious as to your take about why he would disagree with you or why Little should be the exception to what you consider the rule.

So we don’t agree. Who cares? I like you the same now as I did before this exchange and I don’t view your opposition to my sentiment as you being any more of an ass that usual.

I don’t like losing to duke either. And if we hadn’t won 3 championships in the last 15 years, then I’d probably be more irritated that they’ve had the slight advantage over us over that same period of time. But the difference between me and some of y’all is that I certainly won’t gripe about it the year following a national title. If we fail to make the final four, win the reg season or the ACCT over the next 3-5 years and we’re still on the losing end of the head-to-head with duke, maybe then I’ll start bitching. Stay tuned.

I don’t have an answer for that. You’d be better off asking Roy. I guess I could say that Roy might feel like I do - that Little isn’t OAD or at a minimum, doesn’t exhibit the attitude and mentality of a OAD player. And that would make sense to me. Because Little is not a player that needs the ball in his hands to be effective and to “show off” his game. He’s a committed defender, which is not typical of OAD players.

I mean, Roy clearly doesn't mind if some guys are OAD. He told Marvin to leave and completely supported Wright as well. He recruits the guys that he assumes will be OAD. Just not all of them.

he's certainly not actually landing all of them. He's not really landing any of them. And, I'm cool with that.

As much as I find UVA's style of play to be boring. I prefer Tony Bennet's program, and the way he is shaping it and how he builds it, to K's decision to just scoop-up all of the OAD's and pad his stats and basically ruin the entire basis for his legacy.

That they are not as willing to accept a specific role that the coaching staff has designed for them and they’re not as bought in on the team concept.
Not all OAD players are the same. There are some like that I'm sure, then there are some that aren't. But if I had to guess there are probably some guys that go to school for 4 years and are like that too.

I’m sure not all OADs are as I describe them. Not all pit bulls are vicious. But enough of them are that it makes me wary of bringing them into my home with two children. I’ll just get a golden retriever instead.

And I guess some 4 year players can have the same personality make up. But it’s less likely based on the fact that they know they’re meal ticket is in the hands of the coaching staff whereas that’s not necessarily the case with OAD players. Because with a 4 year guy who’s not accepting his role, you can sit him on the bench. You do that to a OAD kid, and you’ve damaged your ability to recruit future OAD kids. Just ask Roy, right?

Get a Brittany.

True story: I'm working on a script where a guy bets against his team in a sure thing rivalry game (for a good cause) only to then lose all the money when the team he pulls for actually wins, so if you guys bet heavy on this one and it goes wrong, let me know the consequences so I can use it for the characters.

Yeah...should have mentioned that I'd preferably like her to still be alive after it. But if this is the only option then I can always get another wife...I can only bet on this sure thing once.
Definitely need to always include specifics. The default answer on OOTB to any question without specifics is some combination of murder, hookers and blow.
