OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

It would be the coolest if Loyola won. Its funny but because of their run to the Final Four, we have already sort of forgot what was the biggest Cinderella in the tournament: UMBC, the first 16 seed to win

I heard something the other day where every natty winner in the last ~20 years (?), has had at least one first round nba pick on their roster. That probably doesn’t bode well for Loyola, however their style and how well they execute it, can negate the disparity in talent. I’d love to see them take down the big boys.

I'm watching the McD AA game and the white kid that is coming to Carolina needs a damn hair cut, but he does look like he can play.

Well, he isn't white. :)

Yeah, it has basically just been let's talk about Duke as much as possible. Zion everything all the time including as they come back from every break. Form all accounts Nassir Little was one of, if not the, most impressive players all week and he doesn't start. Coby was also apparently as impressive as anyone.

Coby's shot looks really good. Apparently he has been lighting it up all week in practice.

Watching the scrimmage the other night, I think Coby could be our starting PG next year.

Damn Nas can get up. That was a monster finish on the lob, and then a great tough finish in the paint right after

The sloppiness of the game and the matador defense really take away from the game though.

Nas has a good looking stroke from 3 too. If he can make those shots consistently then he may be the rookie of the year in the ACC next year.

Not much chance we still have him in 2020 though /:

Kids don't learn how to play defense in AAU ball. That's one reason Little won't start.

They should already know how to play defense before AAU ball. These guys understandably don't want to get hurt during the summer, even though its often higher profile than their high school games. I don't blame them for not chasing down run outs or competing for every single rebound.

No need to wait.

Woods
Williams
Johnson
Maye
Manley

I agree this is how we'll start the season. But after Coby and Nas start lighting it up, they're going to make it tough to keep them out of the starting lineup. Honestly it's almost scarier to imagine these young guys coming off the bench as a unit and just running teams into the ground.

One thing is for sure. We're going to see a lot of fast pace basketball next year. We have the depth on the wings to run at full speed for 40 minutes nonstop.

Coby might start around ACC play if Woods can't figure it out. The Cam/Nas situation is going to play out like the Jawad/Marvin situation. It's possible Roy decides to go small again with Cam and Nas, but I think he tries to make it work with a traditional line up at first.

Who do you think goes down to the 4 if he goes small? I'm thinking its gotta be Nas, Cam looks softer than baby shit when he's in the paint.

I’m fine with that starting lineup (with Woods and Cam in there) as long as our best 5 (which would include White and Nas) get the lions share of the minutes including crunch time minutes. There could be some value to starting Woods and Cam and trying to tread water for the first few minutes and then having White and Nas come in to hopefully blow the game open at the under 16 or under 12.

Agreed. Doesn't really matter who starts as long as the best players gets their minutes.

I can see those guys coming on early and running at full octane until they're gassed, then the starters coming back in to close out the first half. It really depends on how composed the young guys are, and how hard they work to learn the system and play defense. Nas is a scoring machine. He can get 20+ a game right now in the ACC if he gets the minutes. We have to take advantage of his skills next year, regardless of where he's at on the floor. I think he could even play the 2 at times to give rest to Kenny.

We definitely aren't going to have a hard time recognizing Coby or Nas if they keep the hair haha
