OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

I never bought the UK hype. duke was still impressive, but I think they beat a team that should be ranked a lot lower than they were.

Well it aint good to hear and twice as unpleasant to type but this is not your typical disjointed dook team with lack of chemistry, flow and leadership. I see no weaknesses and at least 3 nba players. Yea its one game but judging our first game vs their first? Yikes. Better hope ky turns out to be horrible cause otherwise this is the best team and its not close.

Please.

Cal couldn’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag. He was terrible. The team was not prepared. UK’s defense was embarrassing. And as I stated yesterday, UK’s freshman are B+ players, at best. And they’re significantly better than UK’s returning players.

Roy will have something for k and duke. Duke looked good, but Wofford would have run UK out of the gym last night with that effort. If duke continues to shoot 60% from the field and 45% from three, then sure, they’ll beat up on everybody. But I suspect better coaches than Cal will have a far better game plan. UVa will beat duke. And so will we. And so will someone else.

We’re going to need to start Nas against dook. He may be the only player in the country who can physically match up with zion

I knew UK was a fraud. Where you at @dadika13 ?

Unless last night was a fluke and just a perfect storm of variables that favored the dookies, they're going to be a Final Four team with ease. They look like the 2015 team, only about ten times better. Granted, I'm basing that on one game... that happened to be against the preseason #2 ranked Kentucky Wildcats.

We'll see, but I will be preparing for K's final championship and hopefully retiring.

I'll be impressed if that happens, other recruits probably not so much. I'm still confident he's OAD even if he somehow comes off the bench all season (not happening). I mean Tony Bradley was OAD and played pretty sparingly.
If Brooks continues to play the way he did against wofford, Little won't start. Little starting only happens if Roy goes small and that's something he hates doing.

wow, what is the starting lineup then? i figured Little would play the 3 and Maye the 4.

Coby/Kenny/Cam/Maye/Brooks.

Cam looked outstanding so I can't see Little taking his spot over at the 3. He'd have to replace Brooks and slide Maye to the 5.

Right. But obviously Little doesn't need to start to be OAD. Marv and Tony both went OAD from the bench. And while I would love to have Little come back for a second year for many reasons (most of which would be to give the finger to fans of the OAD), I seriously doubt it happens despite my bet with @tw3301. Could you imagine Cole, Coby and Nas playing together? Would that be better than duke's big 3 this year? Equal to? Nas and Coby would be veterans which has to count for something.

Who was it said little wouldnt start? (Barring injuries) Oh yea-me! And neither would zion if he were here. To think otherwise is to ignore how coach does things. And yea it prob hurts in recruiting these elites. But coach gonna coach. Cant argue with the results.
Don't be taking all the credit. I said it as well.

Although my reasoning was the very cynical "Roy won't start his best player if he has a 'FR' next to his name"

Yepp! I cant think of a single instance where a fr started over a returning starter to begin a season under coach williams. I think maybe a couple did later in the season. Coach is loyal to a fault and you’re gonna have to be light years better to jump an upper classman in starting or minutes played.

Nate Britt started 16 games as a freshman, got replaced by Justin Jackson when we slid Marcus over to the 1.

Larry Drew started 36 games as a sophomore, then got replaced by Butter the following season.

Bobby Frasor started 31 games as a sophomore, then got replaced by freshman Ty Lawson the following season.

Marshall and Lawson did not start the season as the starters their freshman years.

My disdain for Britt is well documented on here. Roy played him way more than he really deserved anyways (single-handedly lost us the Wisconsin S16 game his Sophomore year). But also, Paige was the better PG, which opened up a spot for Jackson, I don't know if that quite counts.

It's crazy to me that the Rivals #2 overall recruit isn't starting and didn't suffer an injury or something. The FBI ****ed him out $150K and a starting spot at Arizona, selfish pricks. In all seriousness I bet he starts when they play Duke, he seemed to play well against Zion in the Jordan game and despite what I read on THR I don't see Roy giving Luke Maye the task of shutting Zion down.

Luke Maye shuts down who he wants. If you score on him, it's because he wanted you to score.

I didn't realize Jeff Capel had left K's side until I watched the KY game. I totally checked-out when the A&M game ended, I guess.

He's coaching Pitt now, they're going to be a dumpster fire again this year but I'm interested to see if he can pull recruits there.

In before $henanigan$.

Lots of defense played in the first half today it looks like. Didn't get to watch because I was playing in some bar putt putt charity event for my friend who has a kid with downs syndrome but suck it tar heels, Duke is a football school now. ;)
