OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

Just ventured over to Pack Pride to enjoy their sweet, sweet tears after yesterday's game. Among the things I learned:

- That was UNC's "game of the year" because our fans blame Moo for the NCAA mess
- Moo U is going to join the SEC
- Trubisky and Hood are heading to the NFL because the NCAA is about to drop the hammer
- Dennis Smith, Jr. is the best PG in the ACC based on statistical analysis. Said analysis was conducted before playing UNC but after Moo played one of the softest OOC schedules imaginable.
- Some things never change

Wake was #14 and we were #4 when we played the triple overtime game in 2003 (Roy's first year back and first ACC game). Felton, McCants, and May were freshmen.
That game forced me, against my will, to memorize the Wake Forest fight song by heart. There were SO MANY timeouts and stoppages during those three overtimes and during every single stoppage, Wake's band quickly played their fight song, which is kinda short. They did this over and over and over and over again. To this day, I have the tune memorized because of that game.

WF had some big man with the last name Williams who was the hero that day I believe.

Yeah they lost Whittenburg in their first game against UVA. If I remember right he was tearing it up before he went down. If he'd been there the whole season they probably don't lose half of the games they did and are a high tourney seed.
The 30 for 30 about that season (and his death) and their reunion is pretty awesome. They cover Whittenburg's injury. He looks like he's having some hip/leg problems.

I didnt remember it went triple OT. crazy. I think it was telecast on ABC when they still did college games and Vitale was announcing. Somehow I remember that but not the overtimes.

I remember that one well, too. I know that was Roy's first season. I think the game was even in December... if I recall correctly. It took forever! That was also one of the games I was at Littlejohn and we lost. The first time was When Doherty was the coach and we were #1 when we came to Littlejohn and lost.

That's exactly how I remember it... because of the 3 OT's. Prosser was the coach, I think.

You're conflating two games. There was the '03 game in Chapel Hill that RH and I are discussing, where we lost in triple OT.

Then there was the 2005 ACC opener in Winston Salem, we were #1 (or 2) and they were # like 3 or 4. We had rattled off ~12 straight victories after losing the first game of the season against Santa Clara. It was an ABC weekend afternoon game and Wake, led by CP3, beat us.

ETA: I stand corrected, it wasn't the ACC opener. It was our ACC road opener though. We faced GT and Maryland in Chapel Hill before the Wake game and beat both.

Yeah I got confused, I was talking about the ABC game originally. I didnt even remember the one you were talking about, but now I do. Anyways, both great games.

Yep and the Villanova team that beat Georgetown, but state would still get my vote.

Sucks to say because we lost to them, but last years Villanova team wasnt necessarily a powerhouse. I still think If our 2012 or 2009 team plays them its a double digit blowout. And I think last years UNC team would win that game 7 out of 10 times if they played that many times.

03 cuse definitely a contender. Managed to play 4 big 12 teams in a row in the tourney none of which knew what a zone was, then kansasz literally missed 30 free throws in the championship. It was Carmelo and not much else on that team.
