OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

I was watching that game for a little bit and all I found myself doing was following Allen and ignoring the rest of it.

Allen seemed out of sorts to me, which was excellent.

This is the first time I've really watched dook this season. It's amazing how much more I hate them after paying just a little attention.

Let's see d00k's frontline, even without Jefferson:

Giles. 5* Top 10
Tatum. 5* Top 10
Bolden. 5* Top 20
Jeter. 5* Top 20
DeLaurier. 4* Top 50
Vrankovic 3*
Obi 3*

Now throw in:

Allen. 5* Top 25
Kennard. 4* Top 40
Jones. 4* Top 40
Jackson. 5* Top 25

How do you lose with a wealth of talent and good experience? There can't be more than one or two teams that can begin to match that talent.

ETA Bolden, yet another 5*.

I would say some of it has to do with it injuries and bad luck. Their three top freshman are still trying to find their flow as they sat out the first 7 or 8 games. K taking a leave of absence certainly hurts too along with allens shenanigans that have been a distraction. Amile Jefferson is also out at the moment.

They're also not playing very good team ball right now. Judging from what I've seen, duke is a force when they play as a cohesive unit. But they're not like that consistently and in the ACC, you're guaranteed to have a let down when you don't play to your full potential.

And give FSU some credit too. They're a really good team.

As strong as the ACC is this year, I expect one of us to win the NCAAT. The level of talent will prepare all the teams that make the dance.

This right here is why I pay no attention to recruiting

Well, many of our fans are absolutely fixated on recruiting, UNC71. I also agree with CB34 with re: to their injuries and the LOM. Still, they have six 5*'s and three 4*'s at their disposal and all are healthy now. No excuse for getting their arses handed to them with that amount of talent at their disposal. None.

I also agree that they are not playing as a team right now, their chemistry isn't real good. Part of it is Allen's antics becoming a distraction, IMO. And Tatum appears to be auditioning for NBA scouts, already thinking about the money he'll be making soon.

Now I fully expect d00k to get better, in fact they have the potential to get much better. Having one of the best 3-pt shooters around in Kennard sure helps. And you just can't miss with all that talent, there's probably 5 or 6 future pros on that team. And the LOM will be back soon. So they'll still be one of the favorites to win it all, barring a total collapse which I don't foresee.

It's the star ratings with which I take issue. People think high ratings for equal success for the team and there is simply not a relatively high correlation.

There is an insanely high correlation lol. Maybe not so much in basketball, but in football there absolutely is. A 5***** in football is most likely going to be a first round draft pick.

No, first round draft pick is most likely going to be a 5 star (maybe), but a 5 star is not most likely going to be a first rounder.

How many 5 stars are there in any given year? How about 4 stars?

But regardless, I said success for the TEAM, not the individual.
