OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

I thought everyone loved Gerald Henderson and Grayson Allen?
There's literally an ESPN special devoted to one of their players being hated. Nobody likes them. K has actually done a good job playing that role instead of trying to change the narrative.

I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but duke is the team that everyone hates. They've had that identity for as long as I can remember.

That was once their identity in the days of Laettner, Hurley and company. Maybe even up through Battier, Brand and company. But ever since they started this fake brotherhood thing and sold out to the OAD model, that was no longer true. They’re the Starbucks of college basketball now.

I think to all of us and a large portion of other college bball fans, they are the school/team everyone hates. To the kids that are elite recruits? I think they are the other school (kensucky) that is known for getting you to the league and drafted in the first round. So, it would depend on your perspective.

I heard K's post-game zoom PC and he was asked about being the villain. He replied he didn't know what that meant. That was a good answer. He can't even be the villain anymore. As GSD said above; their OAD turn-style roster makes it difficult to have any sort of identity other than the "One Stop To The NBA" team.

I remember, during the game, they mentioned "Matthew Hurt" in an assessment of this year versus last year. I'd totally forgotten about Hurt. I know Baker and Moore played last year. That's it. They didn't even make the NCAAT last year, did they?

Now, there used to be a time when they were hated and rightfully so. I can barely remember a full roster of their teams in the last 10 years. K created a OAD puppy mill. It's hard to maintain any kind of villain image when no one stays with your program more than 4 months.

dickie v is upset that the crowd in the smith center was chanting “f coach k”…anyone else hear this?

and thank you for it.

College talent and NBA talent aren't always the same. duke doesn't have 20 points more worth of talent.

ETA: Roy's teams are the perfect example of that. He had a shit load of talent while he was here and none of them turned out to be anywhere close to that in the NBA.
i hear you but Kay has had a shitload of talent and many of them HAVE turned out to be awesome in the NBA ... it's possible to have both and right now (and many times in the past) dook has both. we currently have neither.

We have talent. What we don't have is a team.

We have talent.
not traditional UNC / dook level talent (other than MAYBE Bacot, on his best nights)

RJ Davis and Caleb Love are not even close to the same league as Felton, Lawson or Berry.
Manek is a good spot shooter, but give me Ellington or Danny Green all day
Leaky Black vs Justin Jackson or Luke Maye - cmon.
Bacot is dependable but I'll take Zeller or Hansbrough or Brice.

we have 3 to 4 star talent, at best. also, i agree that we dont have a "team" either.

I didn't know about this embarassingly vile and despicable, uncalled-for and classless crowd behavior toward Mike Krzyzewski. At least now I know our heart is in the right place and this info has helped restore my pride in being a Tar Heel.. So thanks.

LOL at not understanding that not only is dook hated, but that Krzyzewski has purposely cultivated the world-against-dook mindset in his players. He is a master at employing more mind games than actual basketball in order to get wins. It isn't as bad now as it once was because he has achieved so much of what he wanted, but if you have been paying attention, you should have easily seen that the elbow to the face, the trip, the douchey flop, the ref intimidation, etc., etc., aren't exactly things he discourages. He wants everyone to hate the dookies. And of course at the same time he doesn't mind telling you how it's the sportsmanship that makes him so proud.

The man is a grade-A dickhead.

And don't think his retirement wasn't timed to take advantage of the weakness he knew would be created by Roy's retirement.

Uva just beat dook no way you will make me believe we are 30 points worse than Dook Kentucky or Miami. We get out coached when we play good teams.
something I noticed with the dook game and was a little puzzled by was the lack of energy/enthusiasm at the player introductions. I haven't really been paying attention to that, but the last time I did we looked like we couldn't wait to get started. Those guys looked like they were about to start serving a stint in prison. Maybe it's just me.

My 15 year old made the exact same observation. He said, “why are none of the players hyped up? That’s lame.” I told him that this particular group wasn’t one of my favorites and then left the room and went and laid on the floor with my sick dog. Didn’t watch.

Roy always talked about how he hated guys trying to act cool. This group seems way more preoccupied with looking a certain way rather than being a certain way. I’m out for the season. I pretty much stopped watching with the WFU game (or maybe the Miami game - the beat downs are all kind of running together). It’s not our year. Hopefully next year is better.

if we reach the NCAA tournament championship, I'll let you know. You know, just in case that might revive your interest.

ETA forgot to say, hope your dog gets better. Heel hound, I presume.

my day yesterday started badly and then went downhill from there. Late to the office, had to cancel service calls because one of my guys had to be late, back and hip screaming at me because I forgot to take my pain meds the night before, heat went out at the office and my techs were tied up with calls so the temp went down to 59 before I could get out of there. Went home and realized I have a leak under my kitchen sink. Said f that and watched my Hurricanes tie at the end of reg, only to lose in OT.

Then watched Virginia beat dook at home with a last second trey, where they had gone 1-11 from that range..

Yes, yesterday was a great day. Still feeling the glow.

It's K's last season. It's worth it to watch him lose at home. Schadenfreude will never be the same.

it's always been good to see him and his dookies lose, at home or anywhere. Wasn't long ago I said somewhere on this site that I would almost rather see them lose than us win.

That being said, you're right...I can't imagine pulling harder for someone to lose. You can tell it just eats him up inside.

But we'll give Scheyer a chance to foster as much dook-hate as the Ratface did. I already hate him a little.

UNC doesn't have much of a chance... it being the last home game for a 40-year run.

these guys hardly resemble a huddle together during particular points in the game as all carolina teams have for decades…just a lot of weird, uncommon characteristics.

How old is she?

Not sure. We've had her 9 years. Rescued her from a local animal shelter. The people there (who often don't know their ass from a hole in the ground) told us they thought she was between 1-2 years old when we got her. But in retrospect, I think she might have been between 3-4 when we got her.

Bernice is her name, or as we call her, Bernie. And she's been a great dog for our family. I will miss her very much.

Well... I paid to see it in person. Scalper was hesitant because of my UNC sweatshirt.

I was regretting it after the first 8-10 mins. But, it got better. That's gotta be the most technical fouls I ever remember seeing in one game.

I hate back-and-forth games! But... I give Hubs credit... that last offensive play out of the timeout, where Manek scored of of the Love assist, was a thing of beauty. I was sure we were going to OT. The last Clemson possession had my butthole puckered tight. Nice ride back home.

Anyone been watching the History of the ACC Tournament on the ACCN?

I watched the first two episodes last night. It's really interesting. I never realized how huge of an impact Everett Case had on the conference. And, I never realized the history behind Reynolds Coliseum!

Funny tidbit from the 2nd episode and the Frank McGuire/NY Boys influence... "Young kids all around rural NC on playgrounds, playing basketball, were all 'crossing themselves' before making free throws, and they certainly weren't Catholic, and probably had no idea what it even meant!"

Tonight's episode will be pretty good, I'm sure. Enter...

One of the most egregious fouls I've ever seen in a basketball game

touch foul. Let 'em play, ref.

and Kenny Smith and Kendall Marshall were fouled more egregiously IMO, both with resulting injury and consequential loss of playing time. Tyler Hansbrough was fouled much more egregiously, but his injury was relatively superficial and inconsequential.

plus, what about the uncalled foul Moore committed to get the ball? Moral of the story...the moral of every story, fvck dook.
