OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

I don't make it a habit of feeling sorry for dookies but Allen didn't do anything abnormal. Wake was poking the shit out of him. EVERYTHING that dookie does is under a microscope. He brought on the majority of it bc of his bullshit tripping but damn dude is halftime highlights for every game no matter what.

No S&S threads when Berry completely sucks I guess. G7 was too busy. Something tells me if Berry had gone for 20 and 10 he woulda found time to watch and track stats.

Somebody go poast a thread on raider asking where the S&S thread is.

I would do it but I have a strict no poast on raider policy in force at the moment.

He already started a thread letting us know he wasn't starting a thread.

Basically the whole team minus Jackson sucked . . we got 4 points out of our starting backcourt and only 16 points from 4 starters, Meeks had 5, Hicks 7, 2 each from Berry & Williams.

JunkyardDog looked like PetShopPuppy yesterday . . KW didn't score until it got wild at games' end. Isaiah and Kennedy sorta disappeared by halftime.

I guess any team can have a bad shooting game . . its hard to overcome a half of 6-29 (20.7 FG%) . . ouch.

I still think we win the ACC regular season title, but I really don't think this team will win the national title.

We're missing a certain something but I can't put my finger on it. I think it's we don't have a true "get on my back" type of player/personality. I still maintain we are a team full of role players in the sense that we have some really good pieces, but we are lacking that true superstar that Roy's title teams seem to have.

^ I think JJ is shaping into that. He's more confident than I ever remember him being. Berry the last 10 games seemed he could score at will whenever he wanted. Yesterday he just looked disinterested. I mean the whole team (save JJ) did but his showed out to me. Can't have him taking games off. With Kenny I don't even begin to act like I know what's going on w him. It's almost like he's scared to shoot. And when he does shoot it's been the back side of the rim which is just bad. Still wouldn't surprise me to be final four bound again. I think we're good enough.

I think what scares me is this team doesn't necessarily always respond well to adversity. Miami punched us in the mouth and we wilted. The team needs to show stronger mental fortitude. I'd love for a true team leader to step up. Honestly, who's our leader?

Pinson is our leader and JJ and JB are the stars.

Yesterday's game was a perfect storm of unfortunate events, not the least of which being a road game with an early tip. Add to it that Pinson was out, it's the 2nd of 3 games in 6 days and a zone D.

This is one to forget about. It meant nothing.

Good point... as good as JJ is, he's not the guy that will get in his teammates faces and demand their best. By default, that role will usually fall to the PG, and Joel could be that guy but he doesn't seem to want it?

ETA; yeah I forgot about Theo since he's not always available. We REALLY need that dude to be healthy for the remainder of the season. His value to the team is much more than statistics.

Yeah I guess we need to see road adversity with a healthy Pinson and see how the team responds. Then we will have a better idea.

Pinson being healthy and in the lineup makes a NCAA Tourney win very possible.

If we'd had Pinson healthy all season, it's entirely possible that we'd be undefeated. We might still have laid an egg in the ACC somewhere, but Pinson is an X-Factor player.

Anyone else think Roy should significantly tighten up the rotation? What do Robinson and Seventh really add, besides fresh legs?
I've come to realize that Roy Williams knows how to coach a basketball team better than anyone who posts on rivals.

You can criticize him as much as you need to here. Questioning his reasons and strategies is a common bill-of-fare. But, in the end, I have concluded that, when it comes to the way the basketball team is run and coached, I'll be content with Roy's preferences. Roy's methods have proven that he is quite capable of producing excellent results.

Brilliant realization there, Nostradamus. Your schtick on here has to be an act, right?

He usually does when it gets to crunch time of the year. Plus, letting those other guys get some run now pays off doubly, in that our starters are fresher come tourney time, and maybe (just maybe) Roy has to call on one of them in a crucial moment, and we need them to be ready for the moment.

We've seen what keeping that tight 6-7 man rotation has done to the dookies in the past when they have no legs come March.
While it is frustrating at times, I prefer Roy's strategy.

I just can't tell if you're intentionally obtuse, or if it just comes naturally.

No fuggin shit Roy is better at coaching than we are. This is just us having a discussion, i.e. the literal purpose of a message board.

He and his sidekick crave attention, no matter the type. Never lose sight of this and you won't be drawn into and extended yet irrelevant debate which will ultimately end with you being annoyed.

Easier said than done though, I realize.

I crave attention as much as you do.

I replied to his comment. I wasn't trying to be "obtuse" at all.

I just watched Roy's post-game PC and he said that was the first time in 6 years that a UNC player has gotten a technical foul.

How long did it take you to realize that? While you were in the process of figuring it out, did you think that maybe I was a better coach than Roy but then you came around on that thinking?

That'd be like me saying your opinions of what Trump does wrong are invalid. He successfully got elected to the highest office in the land, so clearly his ability in politics is better than yours so you shouldn't be listened to, right?

Man this home stretch of the schedule is brooootal.

Out of nine games we have duke twice, UVA (currently second in the standings) twice, plus Louisville and ND (currently T-3). Oh and then the Wolpfack in Rawlee which should be a win but you can never put it past 'em to all of a sudden play above their heads when they see that Carolina blue.

One thing is for certain, we CANNOT slip up in either of the games against Pitt.
