OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

Very overrated. Also... speaking of resumes, can we please get like an official U.S. resume format?? It's very annoying that different industries have different resume format expectations. For some industries, it's always one page, no exceptions. With other industries, it's fine or even encouraged to go on to a second page. Some industries want your GPA listed; some do not. Some want you to list some hobbies and interests. Others do not. It becomes quite tedious.
I tend to be a less is more type of guy. Relevant job experience and education. I'm not in a postion where I hire people, but I tend to agree with @gunslingerdick that I probably wouldn't hire someone if they put their GPA on a resume.

I would agree about the GPA on a resume, but they specifically encouraged us to put it on there for resumes to send to account firms (don't know why).

Resumes are a pain in the ass. I hate them. I was always taught to keep resumes short and sweet, and apparently my boss was taught the polar opposite. Anyway, we were reviewing some potential hires the other day and naturally, the short resumes appealed to me the most and the long resumes appealed to her the most, so we couldn't agree on anything. It's bullshit.

My preferred solution would be for Carolina to expand. That way, you can take more elite students and take more students from the other end of the acceptance spectrum.

I think that's a great idea. And since Chapel Hill is fairly saturated, this expansion can extend to other cities. Keep placing the elite students at the Chapel Hill campus, and the students at the other end of the spectrum can be dispersed to these expanded cities. I think Greensboro, Charlotte, Pembroke and Asheville would be great places to start with these expanded campuses for the "non-elite" students.

I don't get it, Big Dan.

Without knowing much about the suspension, I'd venture to say we may have seen the last of Jalek in a UNC uniform. The suspension can only add to the possibility of him transferring, and if not transfer, maybe just leave and see where he can play professionally.

Jalek seems like the type who would just say F it to college and try his luck overseas or try what PJ did and get into the NBDL somehow. If all goes well there, then he'll enter the NBA Draft. I just don't think college is for him.

I would say, yes, we won't see him in Carolina Blue again, which is very, very unfortunate. Everyone was excited for 2 whole years about his coming to UNC and his commitment to UNC never wavered.

It also further hurts our chances with recruiting OADs because of how much of a debacle his whole time here was (whether it's his fault, Roy's fault, or a combo of both).

I'm not buying that. No one outside of radar though he was a serious candidate to be a OAD.

ETA: Little will be a true test for OAD at UNC. If he does well and gets drafted, then it will help with OAD. If he has to come back, you might not ever see another top level recruit under Roy.

Where is Ray in all of this? Supposedly they are as tight as ticks. I don't want to blame Ray for his nephew's idiocy, but where is his mentorship?

They apparently text after every game. He has always said Ray tells him to work hard and listen to coach and to just be patient. Maybe they needed to talk about other things.

I think it has more to do with next year than this year. Our depth and experience next year will be significantly worse without him.
Oh, well. You do what you gotta do.

Maybe Jalek was more of a head-case and Roy was extending a favor to a former player that exceeded his better judgement.

Anyone that considered Felton to be a potential OAD is a moron. So I disagree.

Once he enrolled at UNC, it was pretty obvious he wasn't going to be OAD, so I agree with you there.

The point is that if he had gone somewhere else where he could get solid minutes he would have been in the OAD conversation.

Well, he is in the NBA on a playoff team, so I think it would be okay if he leaves his little nephew alone for a while.

If only someone would invent some form of telecommunications. Just imagine how people could stay in touch from all over the world. I once read about this fella named Alexander Graham Bell.

I have a question for all of you elite UNC grads that weren't forced to go to a peasant college. What are some possible conduct code violations that could get you suspended at UNC?
Lol criminy, you know that wasn't what I meant.

It's gotta be Honor Code violation, which is wide-reaching. Could be anything from caught cheating on an assignment/test to any of a wide array of things, some legal, some illegal. For instance, getting a DUI is an Honor Code violation. So is cheating on an exam.

Alright, I did some digging and found this on UNC's webpage. If I'm reading this correctly then it couldn't be grade related since it's his first semester. That leaves conduct code violation or criminal issues. There are no charges listed in the NC court system right now, so I'm thinking code violations.

But which ones could actually get you kicked out? I can't imagine they would kick you out just because of something like a DUI.

Your reasoning is correct, but this isn't Jalek's first semester. It's his second semester. If it was grades, he would've been in "warning" or "suspended" status at the end of his first semester... i.e. in December.

I'm not buying that one either. He was a composite 4 star recruit ranked in the 30s. That doesn't fit the profile of a OAD. His play in high school didn't fit the profile either.

Ya, I'm not saying he would have been OAD elsewhere, just that he would have been closer to being in that conversation than being the seldom used role player that he was here (which we all knew he would be).

The Honor Court can kinda do whatever they want, which is scary. They don't have to kick you out for a DUI, but they could (if I understand correctly). I made it a point to avoid the Honor Court altogether because it seemed like something I didn't wanna get tangled up with.
