The post above. Former NBA Head Coach and Indiana player, Mike Woodson, is the new head coach at IU
It still doesn't hurt to add another if thats what u think. I wouldn't bet on it that we r suddenly going to have 40% 3 point shooters across the board from this existing team lol.Davis can shoot, just watch,
Love can shoot & will show a ton of improvement in that area next year,
Dunn will surprise, he can play (& shoot)
We will have plenty more options from distance next year than just Walton.
Woodson coached 9 years as a head coach in the NBA, last 7 as an assistant. Was a star player in at IU in their glory days. He really should not openly act clueless when he covers basketball for a living...lol.
Yeah, sort of ridiculous. My thoughts exactly, how can you work in basketball at any level and not know Mike Woodson.
How about Qudus Wahab?
Sophomore starter from Georgetown.

We had all of one guy who could shoot for us last year (Walton). The rest of the team was downright atrocious. We need at least 6 guys to man the 1-4 spots in the rotation, and as of now only Walton and probably Love are ones you want to depend on there (Love due to his massive potential and improvement during the season, not because he's already good). Harris hasn't shown anything from a shooting perspective; Davis has, but I wouldn't count on him to be starter level good next year. Leaky... well at some point you have to ask yourself why a team with the best bigs in the country was on the bubble. My comments may be a bit premature right now but it feels like most of the bleeding has now passed, am expecting at least 1 more announcement but if that is who I suspect I don't think it effects much, at least in a negative way. I see posters here look at potential shiny new toys with each new portal entry so I want to take a look. But keep in mind, guys that have transferred to us just have not helped us a ton their 1st season with us
Right now, as for PGs on the team, at least today, we have Love and RJ, rising sophs yet due to the special rules during this season of covid, still have 4yrs eligibility available. While both struggled as freshmen both as well showed much more of their promise later season. While both came in as very raw to the PG position as said, the promise showed late season and to me enough to show me we are in really solid position at the point. I expect both to be greatly improved by next season. I suspect Love blows up big next season and it likely his last for us while RJ I think as well gives us comfort that while he is running the point we are good, his size keeps him with us most if not all his eligibility. So I think we have at least RJ for the long term. While a lot of portal PGs are there, I don't see any of them worth risking limiting our current PGs development time, I would not take a PG at this time and that only changes if RJ were to enter the portal now.
2 guard position, so many screaming, we need shooters, we need shooters, this guy that guy in the portal can shoot, we must have him? But the way I see it, we have Walton who I think will be a GREAT shooter, I think RJ will end up a Joel Berry like jump shooter, and I think we will see Love's shooting consistency rise strong with the better shot selection I expect from a soph. Ant, when he is done with the next 4 seasons with us (he has 4 more of eligibility) I think will develop in to a solid jump shooter, his shooting mechanics need re-tooling but I think he has a shooters feel, I am thinking something like a Kenny Williams level shooter is his upside. Don't discount Demarco Dunn folks, while I suspect it will take him some time to acclimate, kid has a nice stroke that in time will become a very consistent shooting threat, may struggle a bit early on as Love & RJ did as shooters but once he gets acclimated, he is going to be a nice addition. I am looking at Walton, RJ (some time at the 2 as well as point), Ant, and Dunn all as 2 guards and all shooters = no real glaring need for additional 2 guards and I did not even mention Platek.
Wing (3 spot) wow, I see Leaky of course, I see Puff (he is not a 4, he is a 3), and I see Styles who is a 4/3 guy, sorta like Lynch in that he is a under sized 4 but not a great jump shooting wing but features a strong motor and I think will be a strong team leader in time. Styles IMO is a 4yr guy that for at least his last 2 seasons with us will be on the cusp on NBA draftable but being under sized forces him back to college. That means excellent college player that gain experience and stays the whole term of eligibility, very good thing. Rather than adding another wing 3, IMO we could afford to lose one, as in the starter from this past season because I expect Puff to really start to come on next season, most especially after an off season in the weight room, I can see me begging for him to be our starter at the 3 and if not him then Styles, not even sure Roy will stick with Leaky as much next season considering how Puff does now have limited but some experience and hopefully will not be hindered by first covid protocal and injury that derailed this past season. With Puff not available Roy had to either stick with leaky for huge minutes this past season or go small with freshmen, lesser of 2 evils in his mind at least was going with Leaky but next season he has better back up options. Even if we go small at worst it would be with only 1 freshman so Leaky will lose a good number of minutes and could find himself coming off the bench if he can not (and I do not expect him to) get something that resembles a consistent jump shot. So in my view I just don't see bringing in another 3 from the portal now.
The 4 and the 5, because they are somewhat interchangeable for us, we have now lost at least 3 of our bigs and a strong potential we lose a 4 (Brooks) as well as a possibility as I write this of losing Bacot as well but as of now I do not expect us to lose Bacot. We need 3 solid big men, Styles can help some there but he is undersized and will have to learn to handle the size difference meaning as a freshman I see some struggles. Bottom line, we desperately need another big man and really IMO we need 2. Love Garcia, wonder if the reasons Kessler left may effect the way he looks at us, is a rumor that he may have already contacted us with interest but does Shaka taking the Marquette job effect this? It is my understanding that had Kessler not originally committed to us that we were in great position to have been able to have gotten Dawson so we will just have to see. Like the center out of Umass as well but no idea if there is any mutual interest there. I could even see Walker Miller coming back for 1 more, he has size now and been in our system, would rather see him as our 4th big guy for very limited minutes. And of course Brooks could decide to come back for 1 more, there were some chemistry issues with Brooks this past season, we all saw that, really looked as if Brooks and Bacot really struggle to compliment each others game, Bacot looked IMO much better paired with Sharpe and Kessler. Bacot extending out to the mid range is harder with Brooks because that is the role Brooks seems to need to play.
Guys, we have to be careful, not to over invest in guys from the portal for 2 reasons, first, transfers to us just seem to struggle hard for most of their first season with us. Knox never gave us anything really, Pierce didn't give us a lot, Keeling did come on late in his 1 with us when he began taking more mid range jumpers but mostly transfers to us have not worked great. Cam was fantastic his last season but his first was not awful but certainly nothing close to what his last season with us was. If we take a transfer, I prefer it be one with multiple seasons of eligibility remaining rather than a senior with only the 1 season to play for us.
Last season, that does not mean next season, Joel berry for example was not a great jump shooter as a freshman, became one as a soph, just 1 example. Freshmen as a whole playing for us, very rare we get a knock down shooter that shoots that way as a freshman so it is no surprise that our back court struggled, with the exception of Walton, as shooter and frankly, not only is Walton a rare exception he is exceptional. The transfers you mentioned were all marginal guys apart from Cam, that's why they weren't any good. We desperately need scoring talent IMO if we're going to get back to the top of the ACC. Other than Bacot and Walton no one on our current roster provided ACC caliber offense last year.
growth hormonesJalen Cone leaving VA Tech. Wants to go somewhere that will help him get to the NBA. Worth a call IMO. Go get him Roy.

As I recall, both Pierce and Keeling were considered top transfers when they committed to us, both big time scorers at their former schools and reminding you of that is in no way lazy or off!Comparing Keeling and Pierce to former 4 and 5 star high major transfers simply because they are also transfers is just lazy.
The portal is loaded with big time players that wouldn’t normally be in the portal. We all need to adjust our opinions on these guys accordingly.
Top transfers for the transfer market at the time. This year is an entirely different animal because anyone and anybody can transfer. It isn't just looking at guys who scored 25+ at their former school, its guys who can score AND shoot. If you expect to keep the exact same 1 thru 3 positions going into next year that we currently have and suddenly be a great shooting team, you'll be sadly mistaken. Plus we will once again Have 10+ losses. I dont care if Davis or Walton or whoever feelings are hurt if we get another shooter, bottom line is we need minimum one.As I recall, both Pierce and Keeling were considered top transfers when they committed to us, both big time scorers at their former schools and reminding you of that is in no way lazy or off!

Grady to UK. Hey Roy stop sitting on your hands and go get some shooting help. So tired of his slow recruiting approach.
Not frustrating to me. UNC has three shooting guards and three small forwards. He was a tempting target, but not worth recruiting over current playersWe didn’t even call and Roy was told that Grady was very interested in us.
Extremely frustrating.

Most will see ECU and write it off but he actually really good.Jayden Gardner is now in the portal. Big-time player for ECU the past few years. Averaged 18 and 8 this year.
"Score the ball" just sounds dumb to me.
And Roy will continue to lose with that approach. Not frustrating to me. UNC has three shooting guards and three small forwards. He was a tempting target, but not worth recruiting over current players
When the current player is Leaky Black, you absolutely positively recruit over him. He's had 3 years to do something, anything. He hasn't.Not frustrating to me. UNC has three shooting guards and three small forwards. He was a tempting target, but not worth recruiting over current players
Sick of this bs talk of people saying we have current guards and a small forward who r good. Clearly they weren't this year at all and anyone acting like we r suddenly going to shoot lights out is just slow. I really hope Roy regrets this kid grtting away, because its going to take at least 10 more of them to wake Roy the F up and change something. Not frustrating to me. Anyone here saying Leaky black will improve and be a scoring threat next year is jjst a flat out liar lol. Recruit over him who gives a damn if you are a senior if you are terrible. When the current player is Leaky Black, you absolutely positively recruit over him.
